Meghan Markle is constantly criticized by the press. In fact, everything that she does is either questioned or made fun of. In previous years, some royal fans pointed out that there seems to be an unfair treatment of the Duchess of Sussex in the press. After all, she is criticized for the exact same things that Kate Middleton is praised for. And now, she’s also slammed for doing similar gestures just like Prince William.

Just recently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended the queen’s Platinum Jubilee. And on their way to the Thanksgiving Service, the Suits alum was photographed placing her hand on Prince Harry’s back. Immediately after, Markle was dubbed controlling by her critics.
Weeks later, Prince William and Middleton were spotted at the polo match. And during the outing, the Duke of Cambridge wrapped his arm around his wife’s waist. Following their outing, royal fans gushed over how protective Prince William is of his wife and even called the royal couple cute.

Royal Fans Think Prince Harry Should Take The Lead In His Marriage, Not Meghan Markle
While speaking with Express, body language expert Judi James explained why she thinks Markle was criticized when she placed her hand on Prince Harry’s back and why Prince William was praised for being affectionate toward his wife.
She said that even though times have changed, there are still some old-school royal fans out there who believe that Prince Harry should take the lead in his marriage.
“Meghan’s touches might have shocked anyone marinated in old-fashioned royal protocol, where it might have been expected that Harry would always take the lead and perform any steering gestures. But Meghan is a grown woman with very healthy levels of confidence. When she married Harry, she married a man who was wary or even unhappy about posing for the press and who loved to be the joker at royal events and so he probably needed some encouragement gestures,” James said.
Meghan Markle, Prince William’s Gestures With Their Spouses Are Different
James also explained the differences between the way Prince William holds Middleton in public with the way that Markle touches Prince Harry’s back or arm when they’re together.
“William tends to place his arm around his wife’s waist. When he does that she often responds in kind, making this a linking gesture, like holding hands. It’s usually performed side by side and is a signal of affection. It’s a gesture Harry and Meghan also use a lot too, although they tend to prefer the much more intimate PDA of the handclasp. When the arm encircles the waist there is no hand on the back to steer or control. When we do see William placing a hand on Kate’s back, as he does in this photo where she is in the lace-backed dress, it is more likely he is nudging her forward or steering her to move on,” the body language expert said.
As for Markle, she reportedly uses a gesture of affection and assurance toward Prince Harry. And it seems she holds her husband’s arm when they’re together to let him know where she is.
James also said that the Duchess of Sussex usually uses two sets of signals Prince Harry. The first one is the signal of attraction and the second one is partnership affection. And it seems these are some of the things that the Duke of Sussex loves about his wife.
