Pokemon Live Action Movie Reportedly Trying to Recruit Gravity Falls and Guadians of the Galaxy Writers

Legendary Pictures is in negotiations with Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman to write the Pokemon live-action movie, Variety reports. The movie will apparently be titled "Detective Pikachu". This likely means it will be based on the Great Detective Pikachu game, which has yet to have an English release.

Nicole Perlman is known for her work on Marvel blockbusters like Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy. She wiill be working on the upcoming Captain Marvel film and a Sherlock Holmes movie. Alex Hirsch is the creator of the fan-favorite Disney cartoon Gravity Falls. You can see my review of the series finale for Epicstream here.

The Detective Pikachu game this movie seems to be based on follows a hyper-intelligent, talking Pikachu who is a little less powerful and agile than other Pikachu. However, he is a great detective. He teams up with a boy called Tim Goodman to solve mysteries. The game was released in Japan in February of this year.

The movie is supposed to premiere in 2017. Universal Pictures will distribute the film outside of Japan.

I'm a big fan of both writers, so I'm excited to see what sort of Pokemon movie they'll turn out. What do you think? Are Hirsch and Perlman the right choice? Are you excited for this movie?
