Febri.jp recently shared the next part of their Oshi no Ko interview series. Here, the Oshi no Ko anime director revealed which character was the hardest to direct in the adaptation.

Previously, director Daisuke Hiramaki shared his interesting take on adapting manga. Hiramaki now revealed his thoughts on the difficulties of directing the anime, especially one character in particular.

That’s not to say that the character’s VA was hard to direct. Instead, Hiramaki explained how this character’s traits made it a bit more difficult to translate into an anime.

When asked about his particular direction for the voice cast, Hiramaki said that Oshi no Ko's characters had many moments where they switch between emotions. Thankfully, the VAs were all excellent.

Hiramaki did reveal that directing Kana Arima was a bit of a challenge given how unique her character is.

Kana VA Megumi Han is a veteran voice actress who excellently brought her character to life. Despite this, properly nailing down Kana’s voice when switching between emotions took some time.

One example is that, when characters get excited, their voice becomes higher pitched. This usually means their voice gets cuter. But this shouldn’t be the case for Kana given her personality.

Kana has a cute side, but she usually presents herself as haughty, so a cuter voice won’t suit her personality. Thus, Kana proved to be the most challenging character to direct in the first season.

Based on the reception to Season 1, fans loved how the anime brought Kana to life. In fact, the anime was so beloved that it was quickly renewed for another season.

This second season is still far from being released, though director Hiramaki did confirm that he and the staff over at Doga Kobo are already in the process of producing Oshi no Ko’s second season.

Given this, it’s possible that the second season might be released in 2024. If that’s the case, it’s likely going to be released later next year at the earliest, given that it takes time to make an anime.

In the meantime, Hiramaki recommends that fans of the anime should also give the manga a try. Hiramaki said that it makes him happy when an anime that he works on helps the manga source material become more popular.
