One Piece Film: Red is finally screening in North America and the movie just made an awesome debut at the box office. The anime flick has brought in a whopping $9.47 million on its opening weekend.
Box Office Mojo confirms that One Piece Film: Red brought in $4,826,670 when it opened on Friday, November 4. The movie would take in another $2,688,581 on Saturday and $1,960,000 on Sunday. The anime movie, the fifteenth feature film of the franchise, has now earned $9,475,251 in total at the US box office.
It's an impressive feat considering the success of previous One Piece movies. In addition to that, it's another major win for Crunchyroll following the awesome box office haul of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero which earned a combined opening-day total of $10,745,264 in 3,007 locations in the US in August. The film brought in a total of $20.1 million on its opening weekend in North America.
One Piece Film: Red follows Uta, the most beloved singer in the world. After making a name for herself without revealing her identity, she decides that she will unveil herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans, it is time for the world to learn that Uta is Red-Haired Shanks' daughter.
The movie stars Mayumi Tanaka as Monkey D. Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji, Ikue Otani as Chopper, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Nico Robin, Kazuki Yao as Franky, Cho as Brook, and Katsuhisa Hoki as Jimbei. Uta is played by Kaori Nazuka while Kenjiro Tsuda provides the voice of the mysterious Gordon.
One Piece Film: Red is currently screening in 2,367 theater across North America.
