One Piece Film: Red Gears Up with 12B Yen at Japanese Box Office


One Piece Film: Red continues to be a huge success at the box office. The anime movie has just brought in over 12 billion yen this week!

The One Piece Film Red anime has stayed at the #1 spot for a fourth straight weekend at the Japanese box office (via Anime News Network). For this week alone, the movie earned 1,209,188,020 yen (around US$8.732 million) from Friday to Sunday. It was also confirmed that the film sold 832,000 tickets over the weekend.

One Piece Film: Red has now sold over 8.2 million tickets for a cumulative total of 11,454,050,370 yen (around US$82.70 million). It's an impressive feat considering that the movie has only been in Japanese theaters for a month.

For now, the numbers are only for the Japanese box office. However, there is little doubt that One Piece Film: Red is set to dominate international theaters when it is finally released around the world later this month. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

One Piece Film: Red follows Uta, the most beloved singer in the world. After making a name for herself without revealing her identity, she decides that she will unveil herself to the world at a live concert. As the venue fills with all kinds of Uta fans, it is time for the world to learn that Uta is Red-Haired Shanks' daughter.

The movie stars Mayumi Tanaka as Monkey D. Luffy, Kazuya Nakai as Roronoa Zoro, Akemi Okamura as Nami, Kappei Yamaguchi as Usopp, Hiroaki Hirata as Sanji, Ikue Otani as Chopper, Yuriko Yamaguchi as Nico Robin, Kazuki Yao as Franky, Cho as Brook, and Katsuhisa Hoki as Jimbei. Uta is played by Kaori Nazuka while Kenjiro Tsuda provides the voice of the mysterious Gordon.

One Piece Film: Red premiered in theaters in Japan on August 6, 2022. The international release dates are set for Fall 2022.
