Nintendo Switch Planned Sales May Reflect a More Cautious Stance

Nintendo may be putting a lot of lessons learned into the creation and the launch of the Nintendo Switch.

While it has been off to a fairly good start following the reveal trailer of the console, it seems that the company is ensuring that its expectations are tempered. This alone can be considered a good move, seeing as how investors are also tempering theirs with Nintendo forecasts not exactly in stellar heights even following the announcement.

The Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki (via IGN) has confirmed via Twitter that Nintendo CEO Tatsumi Kimishima has confirmed the current financial guidance to have two million units of the Nintendo Switch shipped by end of the financial year.

This number is undoubtedly a lot smaller than the projected figures of units shipped for the Wii U, which was at 3.06 million units. What's more, the expected units may not even be for the units sold by end of that deadline, but rather those that will be shipped to retailers.

Without revealing the price or a price range, Kimishima also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch will not be sold at a loss. But that does not mean that Nintendo will not be listening to what fans' feedback before it sets the final price for retail.

This is probably the most that we'll be hearing about the Nintendo Switch for now. Since launch isn't expected until next year, there won't be announcements of specs or even the price this year.

The Nintendo Switch will be released on March 2017.
