Final Fantasy XV Gameplay Vid Explores Moogles in Game

There's still a good month of waiting before Final Fantasy XV comes out. But with the ongoing Moogle contest over at Twitter, Square Enix has released a new gameplay video, this time featuring the lovable Moogles.

"In Final Fantasy XV, Moogles are lucky items that can be used as decoys! Moogles are famous Final Fantasy mascots and their inclusion in FFXV is due to fan demand to have them in the game."

As seen in the video, Moogles are like charms, which repel evil. But at the same time, they can become decoys. Just look at how Noct tosses a Moogle at one of the enemies. But it's almost a heartless approach even if the Moogle makes a funny squeaking sound. Essentially it's getting riddled with bullets. Noctis, you bad boy.

Kidding aside, it's great as a decoy, because players will have the attacks trained away from them for a crucial few seconds until the Moogle is destroyed. During this time, the player can bring Noctis to a good enough position to retaliate or perhaps even escape.

Another strategic way to use a Moogle is to throw it as bait for mobs. Once they're gathered all over the Moogle, it's time to hit it with a spell. Of course, your Moogle will not remain unscathed but neither will your opponents.

They're not all powerful, because some enemies are immune to decoy effects. Karma strikes Noctis and the gang as that beast ignores the Moogle and aims to maim them instead.

The video is one of the rewards for the contest, so this is a nice sample of what fans can win if they participate. All you need to do is essentially follow the official Twitter account of FFXV. Every follower is equivalent to one Moogle. For a particular number of Moogles collected, there will be corresponding prizes up for grabs.

The biggest box previewed at the start of the contest has been the Moogle Movie, which is this gameplay video. However, there's already another prize waiting to be opened, and it's a Moogle Developer interview. It would be nice to know how these Moogles were created for the game.

Final Fantasy XV will be out on the PS4 and Xbox One on Nov. 29.
