Pokemon Go Halloween Possible Unannounced Updates

Gastlys are the new Pidgeys for Pokemon Go's new Halloween Event update. And judging from the first day's run, Niantic's promise of "frequent encounters" with the spooky Pokemon held true.

However, it appears that these are not the only uncommon ‘mons that are seeing a surge in spawns. Meowth, Cubone, and even Marowak have been spotted so many times within the day by several players over at The Silph Road, myself included.

There are some who have thought that they stumbled upon a Cubone nest. Others were even able to able to catch their first Cubone and evolve it to a Marowak in a matter of hours.

This is currently an unannounced addition by Niantic Labs, as Cubone, Marowak, and Meowth were not included in the trailer or in the official announcement.

For the first day alone, I was able to catch more than the 20 of the usually uncommon Meowth. And after never seeing a Marowak even in Sightings before, I've snagged myself three of them today. They literally keep appearing every 10 or so minutes—just keep your game open, and make sure you are near at least one PokeStop.

As a bonus, Niantic has also changed the starting screen, seen below. Say goodbye to Gyarados for now and hello to the creepy Gengar hiding in the shadows. A new art is always a nice way to say "Happy Halloween" in the event even before you find yourself getting horded by Drowzees and Gastlys left and right.

On another note, I have only seen glimpses of Pidgeys, Rattatas, and Spearows, The most common catch for the day is Magikarp, which I do welcome if only for its Candies alone. This event is certainly off to a great start.

The Pokemon Go Halloween event will run until Nov. 1, so make sure to max out those badges for Ghost, Psychic, and Poison type Pokemon.
