Marvel Phase 5 is just beginning, and yet with Kang the Conqueror already showing how powerful he and his variants are in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, this phase is merely scratching the surface for what the future beholds for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
While we have yet to figure out what the new Avengers team will be comprised of, previous sources speculate that Black Panther, new Captain America (Sam Wilson), and Shang-Chi are in the leading roles. However, a new report is indicating that two specific heroes are crucial to the Multiverse Saga.
According to entertainment scooper Film Odyssey, Shang-Chi and Captain Marvel will play important parts in the Multiverse Saga’s story, with no elaboration yet on what exactly their roles will be.

Now, Captain Marvel is in no doubt pivotal in the multiverse, seeing as she’s one of the most powerful beings existing in the MCU. With The Marvels combining Monica Rambeau and Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan), the three supers are bound to affect the multiverse one way or another.
Meanwhile, Shang-Chi will be returning in his own sequel, which will likely involve his sister, Xialing, taking the Ten Rings for her own nefarious ends. Seeing as Wong also appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, there’s a chance that Wong / Doctor Strange could get involved in the sequel, which would further expand Shang-Chi’s pivotal role in the Multiverse Saga.
However, seeing as this is just speculation with Marvel Studios yet to unveil more of their future MCU plans, it is important to take this as a rumor for now. Though it cannot be denied that we are at least one step closer to the truth behind the MCU’s plan on who could be the reigning heroes on the frontline destined to defeat Kang the Conqueror.
The Marvels is now scheduled to premiere on November 10, 2023, while Shang-Chi 2 has been confirmed to be in development.
