Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy recently addressed whether fans need to do any homework to watch past films to enjoy the upcoming MCU installment.

The highly-anticipated film is expected to explore the multiverse as it will be connected to the Fox X-Men franchise and have references to some of the past MCU projects.

There are fans who are wondering whether they are required to catch up on any past Marvel movies in order to understand the story when they watch Deadpool and Wolverine this summer.

Shawn Levy Confirms No Homework is Required for Deadpool and Wolverine

In a recent interview, Levy opened up about the connection of Deadpool and Wolverine to past Marvel projects and revealed whether the audience needs to see any of them to understand the upcoming film.

Fortunately, he confirmed that there is no homework required once fans watch the film this summer.

"I was a good student in school. I’ll do my homework as an adult. But I am definitely not looking to do homework when I go to the movies," the director said.

"I very much made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude towards the rabid fan base that has peak fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to presume that.

Levy added, "This movie is built for entertainment, with no obligation to come prepared with prior research."

The director's comments may relieve a lot of the audience since we have an assurance coming from the director himself that they don't need to watch any of the past movies if they want to enjoy the film.

However, it also does not stop anyone who may want to revisit the past X-Men and MCU films prior to watching Deadpool and Wolverine and go deep dive into the lore.

Hopefully, that will indeed be the case when we see the film and the general audience will be able to enjoy it without any vast knowledge of what has come before.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
