Naruto and Boruto: Naruto Next Generations are often compared by anime viewers. In the end, which anime is better? Naruto or Boruto?
Both shounen anime have similarities, but there are also differences too impossible to ignore.
Naruto’s Storyline is Impossible to Beat
While there are interesting turns of events in Boruto, like Kurama dying or Kawaki and Boruto switching, we cannot deny that Naruto’s plot is better.
The worldbuilding of Naruto is made in a simple yet intriguing way that viewers will have no choice but to keep watching.
Despite various fillers, viewers will find each episode as good as the previous one as we anticipate Naruto’s next move (and if he ever gets to be Hokage).
Each mission and every conversation he had with other characters continues to shape him into who he is today, and this is only possible with the solid plotline made to support the entire anime.
Since Boruto is already a sequel, there are fewer mysteries to unfold. Add the fact that the first half of Boruto happened when the village was at peace, fans found themselves watching tons of filler episodes without getting much action.
Boruto’s Animation is on a Whole New Level
However, in terms of animation, it is without a doubt that Boruto is on a different level. The movements are more fluid, the action scenes are sometimes in 3D, and the art is nearly perfect.
Viewers fully immerse themselves in each fight scene without feeling weirded out by outed animation. It gets even better with the sounds.
Naruto’s Characters Are Forever Loved by Fans
We have to admit most Naruto fans checked Boruto because they want to see how their favorite characters evolved. What happened to Kakashi? How was Naruto as a Hokage? Was Sasuke a good dad?
Seeing the popular characters of Naruto all grown up (and even in their mid-thirties) feel nostalgic. We see a lot of upgrades, starting from Konohanmaru, who is now a Jonin.
Fans anticipate these characters because of the way they were made in Naruto. Thanks to the great characterization, viewers were attached to the characters that they were willing to watch a new sequel just to see these characters again.
Since Boruto is still ongoing, it is hard to tell how much impact its character has. But so far, there are great character developments from the main protagonists, Boruto, Sarada, Mitsuki, and even Kawaki.
Naruto Vs Boruto: Who Wins?
It is too early to tell if Boruto will get the same achievements and impact as Naruto. Boruto will enter its second half soon, and the first part was filled with unnecessary fillers (which is normal for the whole Naruto franchise).
But we cannot ignore the fact that Naruto is a classic anime that inspired a lot of shounen shows. It was not part of the Big Three for nothing.
No matter how many plot twists or new arcs Boruto gets, Naruto will always be a favorite by many.
The better anime will depend on the viewer, as we all have our own perspectives on the shows we watch. But if we are to choose one, Naruto surely wins this debate.
