As part of Naruto’s 20th-anniversary celebration, a new Global Naruto Character Popularity Poll went live recently, and its initial top 10 results have been shared online. Though the results may not be what you would expect.
The new poll is called NARUTOP99 and it asks Naruto fans from all over the world to vote for their favorite characters.
Fans can vote for not only the main characters but pretty much all the characters in the series from all the ninja villages.
Naruto Popularity Poll Results
The poll went live just last week, and since then, over 1 million votes have already been collected.
While the poll is not yet over, the initial top 10 results have already been shared by the official Naruto Twitter account.
Surprisingly, it’s Minato Namikaze that topped the poll instead of the main trio. Here are the current results of the poll:
1. Minato Namikaze
2. Itachi Uchiha
3. Shisui Uchiha
4. Naruto Uzumaki
5. Kakashi Hatake
6. Madara Uchiha
7. Jiraiya
8. Sasuke Uchiha
9. Sakura Haruno
10. Obito Uchiha
Minato having the highest votes might come as a surprise for many fans, especially as he doesn’t appear much in the series (on the account of being dead).
But as Naruto's dad and one of the strongest shinobi in history, it makes sense that he’s a fan favorite.
Directly behind him is Itachi Uchiha, a well-known fan favorite as well.
Sitting in third place is Shisui Uchiha, which is another surprise result as Shisui is another character who died before the series’ events.

NARUTOP99 Global Character Poll Details
So, what is this poll about? Aside from being a celebration of the series’ 20th anniversary, this poll will also feature special surprises for fans after it ends.
If you haven’t voted yet, you can do so via the NARUTOP99 website. Voting is open for everyone until January 31, 2023.
Fans can vote for any character once per day, with the site being updated every midnight JST so they can vote again.
The top 20 characters at the end of the Naruto popularity poll period will get special illustrations from series creator Masashi Kishimoto.
As a bonus, the #1 Naruto character at the end of the poll will be featured in a short manga that will also be made by Kishimoto.
The final results of the poll will be announced in April 2023 on the official website.
