Moon Knight Episode 2: Why Only Steven/ Marc Can See the Monsters?

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Moon Knight! Read at your own risk!

If there is anything more horrifying than dealing with oneself, it’s facing the monsters and for Steven and Marc, it seems like a curse on them that only they could see these creepy creatures. Moon Knight Episode 2, Summon the Suit, perfectly exhibited this with tons of scenes having a jackal following the titular character and no matter how he tries to tell everyone that something is chasing him, he seemed insane to others.

Steven Grant looked like an insane person when the museum tried to investigate what happened to the pipes that seemed to have burst but they have an idea that something isn’t right. Steven’s co-worker allowed him to see the footage on what happened the previous night and they see Steven in panic, all by himself, and what came out was Marc, but of course, none of his co-workers would believe that.

As a result, the HR calls him to inform him that the museum will got press charges, probably because he did everything in his power not to damage any artifact and it was just a pipe burst but they give him a pamphlet for a helpline because for them, he seems going out of his mind, running around in panic when nothing in the video is chasing him.

Later in the episode, a jackal was summoned by Arthur Harrow from the ground and when cornered, the jackal breaks through the door and surprisingly, only Steven could see it. The jackal attacks Steven and Layla and while Steven looks like a fancy drunkard to regular people, he sees the jackal starting to attack civilians.

See, the reason why only Marc and Steven could see the jackal is that these creatures are only visible to the avatars of the Egyptian gods. It is the only possible answer to the question. Harrow himself confirmed it. Only Steven can see Khonshu because when Harrow ceased to be Khonshu’s avatar, he lost sight of these creatures. With Harrow summoning the beasts, of course, he’s the one who sent it.

This also means that Harrow could be Ammit’s avatar. Khonshu is not visible to anyone else but Marc and Steven. The logic goes the same for Harrow. However, what makes Khonshu having Marc and Steven on his side different to that of Harrow is that Ammit is not yet in the picture, he’s just on his way to her. Whether he would be successful in resurrecting her is still a question for the next episodes.

Moon Knight Episode 2 is now streaming on Disney Plus.
