Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties just over a year after their wedding. An expert pointed out the Duchess of Sussex seemingly asserting her independence during their big day.
Meghan Markle Shows Microaggression At Her Royal Wedding?
Hallie Abrams, stylist and founder of The Wardrobe Consultant, weighed in on Markle's style when she walked down the aisle in 2018. She noticed something in her hairstyle.
Abrams told Express:
"I thought it was very pretty, but it did bother me a little bit that her hair was sort of falling. And a wedding's not the time. I don't think you want your hair loose and going astray."
She added that Markle's hairstyle seemed "like an exertion of her own independence in little microaggressions."
Female Royals Reportedly Communicate Through Their Outfits
The expert added that it's not new for royal family members to use their fashion to send a message. She noted that female royals often use their clothes to communicate.
She said:
"One can look at what the royals wear on too many, many occasions, and they really are the epitome of speaking before you've opened your mouth."
She added:
"I think there is a lot of forethought put into it. Some of it is protocol. You have to wear some color, you have to wear a hat here or you need to wear stockings. Sometimes it's, 'I'm gonna go to this country and I'm going to send a message because I'm going to wear a designer from there.' If you're a fashion nerd you could really spend days down the rabbit hole and dissect all of it. And for those that don't know or don't care, they're still getting the message, almost like a subconscious message."
Royal Family Fires Back At Meghan Markel Without Saying A Word?
Markle said a lot of things about the royal family in her and her husband's Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. The royal family didn't respond but seemingly clapped back at the Duchess of Sussex's claims.
For instance, Markle said they were not allowed to wear the same color as the Queen or senior members of the family when attending events.
She said:
"To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same color as Her Majesty if there's a group event. But then you also should never be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family."
The royals attended Together at Christmas carol service hosted by Kate Middleton. Queen Consort Camilla and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, countered Markle's claim by wearing coordinating-white ensembles.
On Christmas Day, the family walked to the morning church in Sandringham, and the Princess of Wales and Princess Beatrice sported dark green coats. On the other hand, Prince Edward and Sophie's daughter wore a dark blue coat similar to Queen Consort Camilla.
Do you agree that Meghan Markle was showing microaggression on her wedding day? Do you believe that the royal family communicates with the way they dress?
