Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is still held in high regard by Marvel fans and there's a reason why webheads continue to enjoy it to this day. Despite the fact that the trilogy ended in divisive and underwhelming fashion, Raimi's series of films pretty much paved the way for future Marvel projects and it can't be denied that the director, along with Tobey Maguire set the blueprint that would later become the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Longtime fans of the Marvel franchise are aware of plans which would've seen Tobey return one final time as Spidey in Spider-Man 4 but due to unfortunate circumstances, the project got canned and the franchise was rebooted by Sony Pictures altogether. This, of course, left a lot of people wondering what could have been if Raimi had things his way almost a decade ago.

Now, rumors are running rampant all over social media that Maguire and his leading lady Kirsten Dunst will reprise their roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home, gossip that has been circulating since last year. Earlier this week, the actress was spotted at the Sunset Gower Studios in Los Angeles which seems pretty convenient considering No Way Home is currently doing a round of reshoots at the exact location.

Naturally, the photos spread like wildfire all over the internet and fans are losing it over the possibility that Dunst could once again play the role of Mary Jane Watson. Check out the reactions here:

I've said this countless times in the past, Spider-Man: No Way Home has the potential to be the biggest crossover film in comic book movie history and I'm glad it's actually happening. Sure, we've yet to get actual confirmation from both Sony and Marvel but the fact that reputable news sites claim that the rumors are in fact true is enough to convince me. I know for sure that both studios wouldn't let a golden opportunity like this pass them by.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
