With the season now in its final few episodes, it was announced that the Made in Abyss Season 2 finale will be one hour long and will air in late September.
Details about the 12th and final episode were revealed via the anime’s official Twitter account. There, details about an upcoming event for the show were also revealed.
Episode 12 of the second season should serve as the conclusion of the current story arc, hence the need for an hour-long episode.
While having a longer final episode isn’t new for TV anime, having an hour-long episode is unexpected as one hour is closer in length to three episodes. Typically, anime finales are double in length, which is around 45 minutes.
As for the upcoming event, the tweet shared that a prescreening event for the finale will take place at EJ Anime Theater in Shinjuku on September 25, 2022.
The screening will be attended by voice actors Miyu Tomita (Riko), Mariya Ise (Reg), and Shiori Izawa (Nanachi). Also attending is composer Kevin Penkin.
The news of the show’s long final episode was also shared online by Akihito Tsukushi via his personal Twitter account.
Made in Abyss is an anime series by Kinema Citrus that’s based on the ongoing manga of the same name by Akihito Tsukushi.
The manga started serialization in Web Comic Gamma in October 2012. While the manga is ongoing, it does not have a fixed release schedule.
The series starts in Orth, a town that is located beside a giant hole called the Abyss which is filled with dangerous monsters and treasures from lost civilizations.
Those who explore the Abyss are called “cave raiders” and they train all their lives to withstand the perils of diving into the Abyss.
The story follows Riko, a young orphan girl who dreams of exploring the Abyss to find her mother, who is one of the world’s most renowned cave raiders.
Her journey begins when she meets Reg, a mysterious robot with the appearance of a little boy.
The first season of the anime consists of 12 episodes and was released in 2017.
The story continued in the movie entitled Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul, which was released in cinemas in 2020.
Season 2 (full title: Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun) is currently airing, with new episodes being released outside Japan on HIDIVE.
The Made in Abyss Season 2 finale will be released on September 28, 2022.
