Kang Conquers MCU As The 'New Thanos'

With Thanos gone after Avengers: Endgame, there’s only one other option fit for the new big ‘super villain’ role and that is Kang the Conqueror. After Jonathan Majors’ debut as Kang the Conqueror in Loki season 1, fans have been expecting him to play a bigger role in the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and rightfully so.

Thanks to Kang’s involvement in Loki season 1 and one of his variants who turned out to be running the Time Variance Authority, he will also soon be making his first official appearance in the MCU in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. The fact that the very notion and existence of his variant self is a villain, still, makes him the perfect Thanos replacement for MCU’s Phases 4-6 — what with timeline machinations creating various impacts on different characters and universes.

Thanos reached his goal of wiping half of the universe with the Infinity Stones, and similarly, Kang has a different take on what the universe has to offer to them, too. Having traveled through time and space led him to face multiple variations of himself and versions of the world, thus leaving him in possession of greater knowledge and broader experience beyond Thanos’ resolve. There have been talks of Kang also making an appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty as well as Avengers: Secret Wars.

Time traveling and meeting the variations of the people in the MCU through the multiverse have been quite evident in the current MCU films, such as Wanda creating her own space in Westview to recreate her own reality with Vision being alive, Doctor Strange training America Chavez on her ability to jump through time and space while also having to stop Wanda from destroying the universe, Loki meeting his other self Sylvie, Peter Parker defeating his other variants’ villains and many more.

With the theme revolving around variations, Kang could easily squeeze himself in along with the action he plans to take in fulfilling his own goal. His mastery of time travel, after all, gives him the upper hand. How his plans would escalate and how our present heroes will be able to stop him will soon be unraveled in the coming MCU films.
