Jennifer Lawrence Feels 'Old As Mold' Seeing The Hunger Games Prequel

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a spinoff novel from Suzanne Collins’ best-selling trilogy of The Hunger Games. The film introduced Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen who volunteers to take her sister’s place in the televised battle royale where tributes from each district are forced to fight to death. Although the actress admits she expected an upcoming Hunger Games prequel, she couldn’t help but feel ‘old as mold’ seeing the movie coming to life soon.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Lawrence shared her initial reaction to The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: part of it was her being surprised by how soon it came together.

“That makes me feel old as mold. I remember being 21 and thinking, ‘My God, one day they’ll redo and remake them. But I’ll be so old by then! I’ll be dead!”

Lawrence even shared a little advice to the cast of The Hunger Games prequel where she enthusiastically said, “Oh and the prequel? Oh my God, you guys are going to have the BEST time. Just have fun — don’t worry about anything.” Even she seems to be excited for the movie to soon be released, clearly rooting for Rachel Zegler and the rest of the cast, they're going to ‘nail’ their roles.

The prequel takes place 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute for the 74th Hunger Games, so a cameo from Jennifer Lawrence would be unlikely. However, fans have been talking about a potential and logical role for the actress to fulfill — Katniss Everdeen’s grandmother Brandie.

Meanwhile, Rachel Zegler took to Tiktok a little behind-the-scenes tour of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes where she also featured some of the cast on camera; Zegler is set to play the role of Lucy Gray Baird.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes premieres on November 17, 2023.
