The Hunger Games Prequel titled The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is rounding up its casting by adding Euphoria's Hunter Schafer. Based on Suzanne Collins' 2020 novel, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, the prequel will center on young Coriolanus Snow, 64 years prior to the events of The Hunger Games. Just Recently, West Side Story's Rachel Zegler was announced to play District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, while Billy The Kid's Tom Blyth will play Snow.

Alongside the two leads, Lionsgate also unveiled five new casting additions including Jerome Lance as Marcus as a tribute from District 2, Knox Gibson as Bobbin from District 8, Mackenzie Lansing as Coral from District 4, Ashley Liao as Clemensia Dovecote, and Aamer Husain as Felix Ravinstill, who are each District 11 mentors.

Meanwhile, Schafer is set to play Tigris Snow, Coriolanus’ cousin who also serves as his personal adviser. Tigris not only offers advice, but also dictates what Corioalanus' would do, and would surely be substantial in establishing the games.

Hunter Schafer undoubtedly adds another layer of anticipation for the upcoming prequel. Aside from her outstanding performance as Jules in HBO's critically-acclaimed series Euphoria, she is also a civil rights and trans activist in the real world.

With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will be helmed by Francis Lawrence, who is extensively familiar with The Hunger Games lore after directing the last three films of the franchise: Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is pushing a November 17, 2023 release date.
