Shazam 2 Star Rachel Zegler Cast in Lead Role in Hunger Games Prequel


Rachel Zegler is on a roll. The Shazam! Fury of the Gods actor has just been cast in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Zegler herself confirmed that she will be playing the main protagonist in the upcoming prequel film based on Suzanne Collins' novel!

Lionsgate confirmed the news, announcing that Rachel Zegler will play Lucy Gray Baird, the protagonist in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Zegler will star in the Hunger Games prequel film which will also feature Tom Blyth as President Coriolanus Snow. Donald Sutherland had previously played the villain in The Hunger Games films.

Things are certainly going well for Zegler, who rose to fame after playing Maria Vasquez in West Side Story. She has since been cast as Snow White in the upcoming Disney movie and in an undisclosed role in Shazam 2. Needless to say, we're going to be seeing a lot of Zegler very soon.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is an upcoming adaptation of Suzanne Collins' 2020 novel. It follows the young Coriolanus Snow, who is chosen to mentor a tribute in the upcoming 10th Hunger Games. He is assigned the District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird, who sparks the Capitol's attention after singing during the reaping.

For now, the prequel has not yet been given an official production start date. However, things are expected to move forward quickly now that the two lead characters have finally been cast. There is little doubt that we will be getting more updates on the project very soon. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is scheduled for release on November 17, 2023.
