Everything the new DC slate is set to be, rests on the shoulders on the success of The Flash.
Considering this film will begin James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new chapter for the franchise, the introduction of The Flash would have to secure the DCU future.
Now, with The Flash nearing its theatrical release, the director sheds light on how its sequel could come to fruition, whether it is even on the table.
“We didn’t talk about [The Flash sequel].” Muschietti admitted during the Q&A at CinemaCon 2023 (via Collider). “I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does.”
“Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing and it’s being created.” The Flash director said.
When asked on the possibility of Ezra Miller's Barry Allen joining the new DCU:
“And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story?” Muschietti added, “The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible.”
The director shared: “The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact, and so, hopefully, yes, I mean, we don’t know yet. That’s the truth.”

The Flash is about to introduce the DCU’s own multiverse when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) attempts to travel back in time to save his mother from getting murdered.
Unfortunately, this instead led to grave consequences, and that is with the accidental creation of the multiverse.
The multiverse opens up a whole new can of possibilities, though, especially since DC Studios aims to bring back the classic heroes on screen as time goes by.
