The Flash Director Breaks Silence Why The Film’s Theatrical Release Faced Many Delays

Despite last year’s DC shake-up, The Flash survived and is finally releasing this year!

Warner Bros. first announced The Flash coming to fruition back in 2014, and was initially set to be released in March 2018.

However, this later on became the beginning of the many delays the solo Flash film faced over the years.

Apart from the occurrence of the global pandemic, there had been creative differences leading former directors, Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, to exit the film.

Not to mention, Ezra Miller’s controversial allegations almost led him to lose the titular role.

Only then did IT director Andy Muschietti manage to claim the role of helming the film based on the screenplay by Christina Hodson.

Now, Andy and producer Barbara Muschietti weigh in on the impact of The Flash movie’s delays and why it has turned out better for the film than they thought.

“The only way to release The Flash is in theaters,” Andy and Barbara told in a recent interview with Box Office Pro Magazine (via comicbook.com), “Warner’s knew that and we knew that.”

“Of course, it feels great,” Barbara said, “We have worked solidly on The Flash for almost four years. We are very grateful to [Warner Bros.] for working with us on using all this time to make the movie better.”

“The pandemic allowed us to have a longer development and on the other side of shooting, it allowed us more time to explore visual effects like never before.” Barbara continued.

“We all knew that The Flash belongs in movie theaters, and we were happy to wait [for] the right time.”

The Flash sees Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travel back in time with a mission in mind: to reverse his mother’s murder. However, this ultimately brings consequences to his timeline.

The solo film will also star Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s Bruce Wayne/Batman, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, and Ian Loh as young Barry Allen.

DC Studios’ The Flash is currently slated to be released in theaters on June 16.
