Fans have been eagerly awaiting the series’ return for years now, and finally, it was announced that the Hunter x Hunter hiatus is about to end as the manga will return with its next chapter this October.
The news of its return was announced via the official Weekly Shonen Jump Twitter account which revealed that Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 will be released in issue #47, 2022 which will be released later this month.
Hunter x Hunter Hiatus
Due to health issues, creator Yoshihiro Togashi has gone on extended breaks over the past years.
Although when Hunter x Hunter began serialization back in 1998, the series was published at a regular pace with only a couple of one-week breaks.
Starting in 2005 though, Hunter x Hunter has gone on hiatus multiple times. The current hiatus is so far the longest as it has been nearly four years since the release of the last chapter.
In case you need a refresher, the manga is Togashi’s fourth series work for Weekly Shonen Jump (not including his shorter early works).
It is his second battle shonen series following his other iconic manga series, Yu Yu Hakusho.
Much like his earlier work, Hunter x Hunter has proven to be a big hit. It is even among Shonen Jump’s bestselling manga, with the series having over 84 million copies in circulation as of July 2022.
Aside from enjoying great sales, the series has also been adapted into several TV anime.
The first is a TV anime by Nippon Animation which ran from 1999 to 2001. It was followed by an OVA series also by Nippon Animation from 2002 to 2004.
The latest anime adaptation is the TV anime from Madhouse which ran for 148 episodes.
Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391 Release Date
Aside from its return to Weekly Shonen Jump, it was also announced that the manga’s next chapters will simulpub on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app in English.
Its Manga Plus simulpub was announced via an update in the app which featured a visual of Gon.
Hunter x Hunter will return with Chapter 391, and it will release in Japan and internationally on October 24, 2022.
Right now, there’s no word yet on how many chapters will be published before the series will go on another hiatus.
