Justin Roiland has lost two more projects after he was charged with felony domestic abuse. Hulu has just dropped the former Rick and Morty co-creator from two animated shows Solar Opposites and Koala Man.
A short statement from 20th Television Animation and Hulu Originals was shared by Variety. “We have ended our association with Justin Roiland,” it read. Although the statement does not elaborate, it was clear that Roiland will no longer be involved in two of the animated shows he had been connected to.
Solar Opposites was co-created by Roiland and Mike McMahan. Roiland served as one of the executive producers and voiced the character Korvo in the first three seasons. It is unclear if Korvo will be recast in the fourth season.
Roiland served as executive producer on Koala Man where he also played the character Chad Wagon.
Adult Swim had previously announced that they are no longer associated with Justin Roiland, officially dropping him from Rick and Morty. The next season of the animated series is still in production and Roiland's characters will be recast. Dan Harmon is now credited as the sole creator of the Adult Swim show.
Justin Roiland was recently charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit by the Orange County District Attorney’s office. According to a May 2020 complaint, The incident against a Jane Doe allegedly occurred in January 2020.
Roiland pleaded not guilty to the charges in October 2020 and the semi-sealed case was kept out of the public until a hearing on January 12, 2023. He is also required to attend a scheduled April 27 hearing.
Solar Opposites has been renewed for a fourth season but the next season has not yet been given an official release date. All episodes of Koala Man are currently streaming on Hulu.
