In a few days, WandaVision will premiere, opening the series with the first two episodes for the first week instead of the usual one episode per week schedule of the series. Marvel Studios Boss Kevin Feige stated that there had been discussions to release the whole season at once but decided to release one episode per week, with the exception of the first week as it would be a two-part episode as a kick-off for WandaVision.
Feige considered the success of The Mandalorian in its weekly rollout saying that The Mandalorian has proven that the weekly anticipation of the viewers following the series lead to weekly speculations on what would happen next and it would be fun to build stories with that style. Feige added that it would be an equally fun experience to binge-watch the whole series when all the episodes are available.
Will the length of each episode be the same?
As to the lengths of each episode of WandaVision, each of the first three episodes, as screened by the press, ran about half an hour or so. Feige said that after the three episodes, the running time of the episodes would start to vary more. This would make way for the establishment of the characters, the feels of the series, and the homage to the ‘50s, '60s, and ‘70s sitcom style of the series.
Feige highlighted the fact that streaming is not bound by the rules of network TV where time is strictly followed. He said that in streaming, the series could take their own time and own pace to suit what the story would require. Some episodes could be lengthier or shorter depending on what the episode would tell the viewers and the liberty to instill the excitement of anticipation for the next episode.
WandaVision is set to have nine episodes streaming on Disney+ starting on Friday, January 15, 2021.
