While fans of the series are eagerly awaiting the anime adaptation, it was revealed that the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga is going on a hiatus.
The manga’s hiatus was revealed recently in the latest Weekly Shonen Sunday issue. Sadly, for readers of the manga, it’s not clear how long this hiatus will be.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Manga
Despite being serialized in a shonen magazine, Frieren is far from your typical battle shonen like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba or Black Clover.
Instead, it’s a fantasy series with a premise that seems more like a light novel than a manga.
Though even when you compare it to popular fantasy light novels (many of which are isekai titles), Frieren still stands out thanks to its unique story.
Its story follows Frieren, an elven mage who was part of an adventurer party that vanquished the Demon King and brought peace to the lands.
The members of her party include the humans, Himmel and Heiter, along with the dwarf, Eisen.
After the Demon King’s defeat, the four go their separate ways, and they promise to see each other again after 50 years.
Half a century has passed, and Frieren returns to the capital to reunite with her friends. But she discovers that her companions have aged, unlike her, as elves live long lives.
Soon, she sets out on another journey, this time alongside Fern, an orphan adopted by Heiter. They set out on a quest to learn more magic.
Thanks to its unique premise and emotional core, the series has received praise from critics and fans alike. It was even awarded the Manga Taisho Grand Prize in 2021.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Hiatus, Return Date
Now though, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the story’s continuation. This is because the Frieren manga is now on a hiatus, with no word on when it will return to serialization.
Hiatuses aren’t new to manga, though there’s typically a reason given for the break.
Usually, hiatuses happen due to the author’s health issues. Though for Frieren, there was no information given.
Upon the hiatus’ announcement, many fans were saddened by the news, especially given how many consider it one of the best ongoing manga currently. Though fans also hope that the author is in good condition.
While there’s no word yet on when it will return, a Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime adaptation is set to air sometime this year.
