First Look at Time's Minions in Alice Through the Looking Glass

Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) in Disney's upcoming Alice Through the Looking Glass is your classic "buffoon" villain.

As director James Bobin told EW:

[He is]that classic buffoon who's in charge but makes everyone else do all the work.

If he needs work done in his sinister, underworld castle, he has little robot helpers called Seconds.

Take a look at the seemingly adorable Seconds:

I say "seemingly" because when it come to protecting Time's property, such as the battery to his grand clock which Alice (Mia Wasikowska) steals, they turn into a gigantic cyberpunk-looking "50-foot creature" called Minutes (of course).

This makes me wonder what Hours looks like. It appears Alice will have a tougher time getting that battery.

According to Bobin, he created Seconds with the help of a book on industrial-age tools and it's up to the movie's animation team to make Seconds more unique.

Animation supervisor Troy Saliba told the magazine with a laugh:

'Minions' is a word that we generally try to avoid, but we were leaning on body-language comedians like Mr. Bean and Buster Keaton.

I must admit I thought of Universal's Despicable Me minions upon seeing Seconds, but clearly, no longer would anyone associate Seconds to any adorable follower seeing Minutes, which actually looks pretty cool and daunting for a "buffoon" like Time.

Time however has a mustached metal Second cute manservant named Wilkins.

Bobin describes him as their "little oil can with legs... the curious puppy who always wants to help out."

I think at some point he'll be helping Alice out even if he is Time's manservant.

Alice Through the Looking Glass hits theaters on May 27.
