Extraction 2 Release Date: When Will the Sequel Come Out?

Netflix released a save the date video for the titles that are arriving on the streaming platform this year and that includes Extraction 2 which will be coming out on June 16, 2023, marking the return of the action-packed movie headed by Chris Hemsworth.

Extraction is based on the graphic novel titled Ciudad written by Ande Parks, Joe and Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman. The sequel, Extraction 2, will continue the story of Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary.

Extraction 2 Cast: Who are the Actors Included in the Sequel?

To date, most of the cast appearing on Extraction 2 remains under wraps but the main characters from the first movie are all confirmed to return and reprise their respective roles.

There's Chris Hemsworth, the banner star of Extraction 2, who reprises his role as Tyler Rake, a former SASR ops member who became a black ops mercenary for his skills.

Then, there's Golshifteh Farahani who will be returning as Nik Khan, another mercenary and partner of Tyler, and from her crew comes Adam Bessa who will continue to play Yaz Kahn.

Extraction 2 Crew: Who are the Creative Minds Behind the Scenes?

Since it is based on Ciudad, and the Russo brothers are part of the team that wrote that, they are also the ones who created the story of Extraction 2. Given their previous work experience with Chris Hemsworth, it's no surprise that the three of them are the producers of the sequel.

Extraction 2 was first revealed to be in development when Joe Russo was tapped to pen the sequel with director Sam Hargrave returning to helm the project with Greg Baldi as the cinematographer and Álex Rodríguez as the editor. The Russo brothers are also rumored to be working on Saju's origin story.

Filming of Extraction 2 was supposed to commence in September 2021 in Sydney, Australia but because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions on health, the team moved the whole production to Prague where Hargrave officially announced the start of their filming in November 2021.

Chris Hemsworth also made an announcement that his filming of scenes stared in December 2021. The whole production team continued their filming in Vienna, Austria in January to February 2022. Scenes were also filmed at Donau City near the DC Towers. The whole filming finally wrapped up in April 2022.

The cameras used for Extraction 2 are ARRI ALEXA Mini LF cameras which will follow the similar long-take strategies that was implemented in the first film. They did all the reshoots on the sequel last November 2022.

The production company behind Extraction 2 is AGBO, and Netflix will be distributing it internationally.

Extraction 2 Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Sequel?

There is no official synopsis released for Extraction 2 yet. However, it is expected that it will pick up where things left off from the first film, possibly another project that Tyler Rake will be taking on next with Nik and Yaz to back him up.

In the end of the first Extraction film, Tyler Rake has been presumed dead but it turns out he isn't as he would be coming back, still, as a black ops mercenary, in another high-stakes mission, and that would be a surprise, right? It is as if Tyler rose from the dead.

With that, it is also expected that Extraction 2 will be explaining how, from being presumed dead, Tyler Rake comes back alive to take on another mission that would require his expertise in such a field, in the deadliest and most dangerous extractions.

Extraction 2 will be released exclusively on Netflix.

Netflix plans offers subscriptions depending on the inclusions, the number of people that could share the account, and the ads that comes with it. The Basic Plan costs $9.99 per month, the Standard Plan costs $15.99 per month, and the Premium Plan costs $19.99 per month.

Is There a Trailer for Extraction 2?

Unfortunately, it is too early for a trailer for Extraction 2, but expect one in the coming months as it will be released on June 16, 2023.

So far, a preview for Extraction 2 has been included in the "Save The Date" video of Netflix for their 2023 roster.

There, it shows Chris Hemsworth's character, Tyler Rake, on top of a moving train, plus some action in what seems like a base in an icy tundra where he is shooting at a helicopter, and there's also Nik Khan, Golshifteh Farahani's character, rocking a bob cut.
