Ellen DeGeneres shocked her fans all over the world when she announced she was ending her long-running TV show. The wife of Portia de Rossi claimed she truly believes it was “the right time” to bring the program to a close.
The popular American host, however, did not directly mention accusations of a toxic work environment that put the show under a cloud in 2021. Ellen DeGeneres claimed to have decided to wrap up the television program after Season 19 in 2022 before the scandal erupted.
Now, new reports claim that, while Ellen DeGeneres was hoping to depart from the small screens on a high note, the last few weeks of The Ellen DeGeneres Show have reportedly been anything but celebratory. Keep on reading to know more details.
Ellen DeGeneres Desperately Trying To Repair Her Reputation?
Star Magazine, in its upcoming May 23, 2022 issue, reported that morale is extremely low by the end of Ellen DeGeneres’ run. It was even claimed that getting A-list guests and even filling the audience was a struggle.
The entertainment news outlet said Ellen DeGeneres had been desperately trying to save what is left of her reputation, but it has been an uphill battle. An unnamed source told the magazine:
“There were a lot of A-listers who were acutely aware Ellen was damaged goods, and it just wasn’t a good look to be supporting her on the show. Sure, she convinced the likes of Kris Jenner and Jennifer Aniston to come on, but it wasn’t easy. The bottom line was nobody really wanted to be associated with her, and those who gave her pass did so because they had projects to promote.”
Reports suggested that Ellen DeGeneres’ fear of being canceled took its toll. A tipster suggested the host was “drinking like a fish” at the height of the scandal, and Ellen herself admitted to “drinking her weight in wine.”
Trying to make light of it, Ellen DeGeneres regaled host Jimmy Kimmel with an anecdote about having to drive an injured Portia de Rossi to the emergency room after consuming three “weed drinks” and downing two melatonin sleeping pills. “You drove her yourself?” Jimmy asked.
Ellen DeGeneres had built her $490 million fortune by being someone people wanted to invite into their homes daily. However, the host allegedly became less and less like her audience as the years went on.
During quarantine, Ellen DeGeneres reportedly came off as tone-deaf when she compared quarantining from COVID-19 to “being in jail” and was called out by one of her staff for allegedly not communicating with them for a month about issues such as their pay.
In her apology, the better half of Portia de Rossi’s wife said she is “in a position of privilege and power,” and she realized “that comes [with] responsibility,” and she takes responsibility for what happens at her show.
An unidentified informant claimed staffers did not invite Ellen DeGeneres when they threw a big party before their official exit. The insider dished:
“There’s no way they’d invite her. It was about everyone saying goodbye to each other in a relaxed setting, clinking a few glasses and consoling one another for the hell they’d all been through.”
The same source furthered that the crew has a running joke about how they all deserve medals for enduring Ellen DeGeneres’ reign of terror. It stated:
“They say that whatever life throws at them will be a thousand times easier than walking on eggshells around a tyrannical boss.”
Following the cancelation of her show, Ellen DeGeneres is expected to fade away for a while, though she is not disappearing for long. Portia de Rossi is reportedly urging the host to go back to stand-up.
Ellen DeGeneres has yet to comment on these reports. So, devoted supporters of Portia de Rossi’s wife should take all these unverified claims with a huge grain of salt until everything is proven true and correct.
