2021's Disney+ series WandaVision offered a brief transition of Wanda evolving as her comic book counterpart, the Scarlet Witch. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows a version of Wanda we've never seen before as she fully descends into a cruel villain, being corrupted by the Darkhold.

As the sequel progresses, it was revealed that the Scarlet Witch was behind the creature (Gargantos) who wanted to capture America Chavez due to her ability to travel across different universes. Now, the Scarlet Witch wants to absorb Chavez’s ability to get to her twins, Billy and Tommy in another universe called Earth 838, where a version of herself also exists and lives happily with the twins.

After going on a brutal killing spree, with Chavez's help, Wanda successfully made it to Earth 838. But the twins are now terrified of her after she attacked 838's Wanda. From there, the Scarlet Witch immediately realized the monster that she has become and vowed that nobody will ever be corrupted by Darkhold again. Wanda destroyed the book, while seemingly killing herself with the temple’s crumbles.

Now, our theory believes that Earth 838 Wanda replaced the MCU's original Wanda when she touched her face in the end. In addition to that, Earth 838 also uttered the words: "know that they'll be loved," which might be the takeaway that 616 Wanda never went back to her senses, but Earth 838’s Wanda replaced her body and fixed the Scarlet Witch’s mistake the original MCU universe.

Of course, only Marvel Studios knows. But let's admit it, after all, that happened with Wanda Maximoff, Marvel wouldn't kill one of the strongest MCU characters just like that. If ever Wanda returns, she must redeem herself and reclaim her title as an Avenger.

Elizabeth Olsen also reportedly signed a 7-year extension contract with Marvel Studios, which means we will get more of Wanda Maximoff in the future of the mega-franchise.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still showing in theaters worldwide.
