The wait for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 3 is finally over and the premiere ensured that it would be worth it. Although there is a lot to discuss about Episode 1, fans are currently celebrating the proper debut of Yoriichi Tsugikuni.
In Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1, the meeting between Muzan Kibutsuji and the Upper Rank demons was abruptly followed by a peaceful setting where a man apologizes to his guest for making him babysit his child. The guest insists it is no bother but also claims he will leave after drinking his tea. The man, who is revealed to be a charcoal seller, reiterates that feeding the guest is important since he had saved him and his wife.
The man, whose name is confirmed to be Sumiyoshi, further asks to pass down the guest's story to his descendants but the guest insists he isn't someone special. As the guest looks away, Tanjiro Kamado begs him not to belittle himself before awakening from his dream.
At this point, it is clear that the guest is Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the greatest Demon Slayer that ever was. Although he appeared briefly in the second season as a distant memory of Muzan's cells in Daki, fans are delighted that we finally have a clear look at Yoriichi and Kazuhiko Inoue returned to provide his voice.
Yoriichi might be long gone in Demon Slayer Season 3's timeline but he is still set to play an important role in the story. As the greatest Demon Slayer in history, all the swordsmen aspire to be as powerful as him and he certainly set the bar way too high. Nevertheless, we are looking forward to learning more about Yoriichi's origins and his tragic history.
Demon Slayer Season 3 got an hour-long premiere that covered the first four chapters of the manga's Swordsmith Village arc. The second episode is titled Yoriichi Zero Type ("Yoriichi Zeroshiki") and will premiere on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
