Deadpool 2 Fans Can Look Forward to New, Unrestrained Jokes

If there's anything that made Deadpool a true success, it would have to be its very unapologetic stance. It understands where it's coming from, and knows how to make good use of it.

And writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese know this, too, which is why they are still sticking to the same brand of comedy for the sequel as we have seen in the original movie.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Reese and Wernick shared a few of the ammo they have into building up the Deadpool-brand of comedy into the sequel. Without confirming what exactly will be Deadpool 2's main plot will be, the writers did state that the movement of the Marvel franchise will be something that they would keep watch, as both an outsider of the franchise but also a part of the Marvel family.

"More than anything, I think he's going to have his fun with what they do in the other franchise. Deadpool is a movie that did break all the rules. And I think we're going to continue to break those rules. So yeah, I do think that timelines are something that we can make fun of and don't have to be slave to."

The writers also shared that the real struggle in as far as the years it took to get Deadpool going is pretty much over. Now, it's high time for them with the studio right behind them a hundred per cent and pretty much sealing the deal that the sequel won't take the staggering six years to make/

"We haven't had the leash taken off this time, because the leash was never on the first time. The studio didn't ask us or force us to take out a single joke in that first movie. They never questioned anything we did. And that has remained the case. I don't think we feel necessarily any more free than we did, because we were already free."

This sense of freedom may be seen in how Deadpool has been an "anti-establishment" movie, according to Wernick. And that meant having the studio open with the high possibility of jokes for the likes of the X-Men franchise or Wolverine—something that the studio supposedly embraced thus making the movie a success.

"I think the studio embraced it, much like Ryan embraced making fun of himself. I think audiences appreciate that, because those are the same conversations audiences are having in their own homes."

So what can we look forward to for the sequel? Well, of course they won't say for now. But Reese did hint that they have "some new things" that they will be making fun of this time. As long as the restraints are never there, I'm sure we need not worry about a lack of jokes this time either.

Deadpool 2 is expected in theaters sometime in 2018.
