Deadpool 2 Won’t Be Bigger Just to Go Big

The writing process for Deadpool 2 seems to be a fun experience to witness. This is how writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick describe the experience when it comes to sitting down with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.

In an interview with Collider, the writers acknowledge Reynolds's role in the writing process as not only integral, but also describes him as he genius voice behind Deadpool himself.

"We're breaking story and actually writing pages with him and trading back and forth. He is not only very involved, but he's integral in that writing process for the sequel as he was in the first one. If we make each other laugh, it feels like all the other voices kind of quiet behind our laughter in terms of all the pressure and expectations going into the sequel. We're having fun doing it and that's always a good sign."

Perhaps an even better piece of news is that the studio is giving the creators almost a free hand in how they want to treat the movie. Maybe it's thanks to the unexpected wonder of a hit that it became. Or because Reynolds has already fault tooth and nail for the movie to be what it is.

This is unlike what rumors are suggesting for the DC films, where creative differences have been a major factor in director exits and possible delays for some of its lined-up movies.

So, will Deadpool 2 be a bigger movie than what the first one is? I love their response of how everything should be "Deadpool-appropriate." It totally avoids a common sickness of being too ambitious for all the wrong reasons.

"Bigger action, bigger music cues, bigger stars if we were to want them, we may have access to that, but I just think we have to be judicious about not just grabbing because it seems bigger… We just have to make sure it's Deadpool-appropriate."

Everything I've heard and seen so far with Deadpool 2 has been going smooth despite a few hiccups. If only all superhero movie productions are as well-thought-out.
