Deadpool’s Writers Share What New Director David Leitch Brings to The Movie

As one of the widely acclaimed, insanely popular movies, Deadpool has a lot of eyes on its sequel. A lot of fans are looking forward to how the creators will deliver yet another successful hit. After all, everyone was already looking forward to the sequel the moment those mid-credits scene was shown.

There was a bit of a stir when it was announced that Tim Miller was stepping down from the project as its director. Since his role as director was crucial, some fans wondered how exactly this will affect Deadpool 2.

In no time, John Wick director David Leitch stepped in. And for those who are wondering how the dynamics in the new team are, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed in a new interview with Collider just how Leitch factors in on the sequel.

"We're pretty far down a path before Dave came on so now we're tailoring it to Dave's sense of action and style. I think the comedy was in place to a great degree before he came. I think any director is going to have an adjustment period to the rule-breaking that takes place in a Deadpool movie. None of us, writers, actors, directors have ever been given the kind of freedom in a big budget studio movie like this to do the kind of things that we do."

Leitch is also there to balance the action of the sequel with the humor. The good thing about this is that Leitch is not just good with stunts but he also knows how to narrate a good, simple story.

"He's bringing his own unique take on it. Dave is coming in and taking what we have and saying what works and giving suggestions. And it's growing in a fun way. And he's great at providing a list of what we can do… Like it's this wonderful menu of personality and character built into the action that he does better than just about anybody in town."

Even though there's a new director who will be weaving the action narrative for the Deadpool team, Reese and Wernick did state that as far as the humor and story of Deadpool goes, the fans can expect the same kind of character and feel from the first movie, thanks to the close work that they're doing with Ryan Reynolds.

Filming for Deadpool 2 is expected to start sometime in June.
