The Merc with a Mouth will still be flying solo for Deadpool 2 so goodbye to any team-ups that rumors have recently suggested. But worry not, because even if he fights alone, we'll be seeing really cool cameos.
Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick assured this in an interview with Deadline, stating that the goal is to still make it a Deadpool movie above all.
"Yeah, it'll be a solo movie. It'll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool's movie, this next one. I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we're on our multiple draft now. it's taken different twists and turns, but it's really coalescing, and we're very, very excited."
It's not all excitement though. Deadpool was a sleeper hit not only in box office performance, but also in the awards department. Already, the movie has enjoyed accolades recognized by the Critics' Choice Movie Awards and nominated at the Golden Globes. It also supposedly has a shot at an Oscar.
Because of that, it's no wonder the writers are feeling pressure to live up to the first one. On a personal note, I think the team's passion is more important than the need to live up to expectations or to the previous run. Nobody thought it would perform well and the goal was not to make it do well in the movies.
The lineup of the movie is already looking great. Deadpool himself, played by Ryan Reynolds, has already hinted that Cable will be in the sequel. Whether or not the second movie will set up Deadpool to truly become immersed in the X-Men movie universe remains to be seen.
If you ask me, an X-Men reboot with the mouth merc right in the middle would be the best thing for the franchise. Deadpool 2 is currently set to be directed by David Leitch with an expected summer shooting schedule.
