In a recent interview, the original director of Constantine shared that the sequel is still in the works but the recently-concluded WGA strikes put a lot of their plans on hold. He revealed: "So Constantine 2 got obviously held up by the writers' strike. And we had to jump through a bunch of hurdles to get control of the character again, because other people had control of the Vertigo stuff. We have control."

Keanu Reeves will be reprising his role as John Constantine, a skeptical but talented exorcist who can see and communicate with angels, demons, and everything in between. He can also travel between Hell and Earth.

The Rest of Constantine's Team

We still do not know who the rest of the Constantine 2 cast will be, but we are hoping that the main cast from the first film will also be a part of the sequel.

We may see Rachel Weiz as Angela Dodson, an LAPD detective who was introduced into a life filled with visions and awareness of Angels and Demons. We may also see Djimon Hounsou as Papa Midnite, a voodoo shaman and businessman who owns a club where half-breeds are free to be as they are.

The actors who played angels and demons from the first film may also come back to sow more discord amongst the mortals, but we still don't know for sure. Tilda Swinton may reprise her role as Gabriel the Angel, and Peter Stormare may reprise his role as Lucifer.

Other characters who have died in the original film, like Shia Lebeouf's Chas Kramer and Max Baker's Beeman, may still return. After all, with Constantine, anything is possible

Constantine 2 Crew: Who are the Creatives Behind the Scenes?

Francis Lawrence, who directed the first Constantine film and has since helmed the likes of The Hunger Games, its upcoming prequel Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, and I Am Legend, returns to take the work on the sequel. Akiva Goldsman will write the script for Constantine 2 while also working as the producer through his production company, Weed Road Pictures. The other show producers are J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot.

Constantine 2 is still very early in production, which means it will take some time before we hear anything about the potential storyline of the movie.

The ending of the first Constantine movie was a good set-up for a sequel. We may see Angela continue down the path of being a paranormal investigator, working alongside John. Papa Midnite might also forge a stronger alliance with John, chasing after more demons and sending them back to hell.

Aside from this plot line, the film's writers have many source materials to draw from, thanks to years of DC Comics releases. What we can expect is a hard-hitting, action-packed adventure filled with magic and the occult.
