After the show’s opening changed beginning with Episode 14, the Blue Lock anime revealed that it is getting a new ending theme that’s performed by popular Japanese band UNISON SQUARE GARDEN.

The show’s new ending theme is made for its second cour, which began earlier this month.

While the second opening is by a new artist, this second ending brings back the first opening song’s performers.

Most anime fans are probably familiar with UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, the popular three-piece band that has performed lots of popular anime songs over the years.

Their most popular anime song is arguably Sugar Song to Bitter Step, which was used as the ending theme for the Kekkai Sensen (or Blood Blockade Battlefront) anime series.

Aside from being a catchy song by itself, the ending sequence became a big hit among anime fans for its simple yet memorable concept.

In fact, it has spawned various recreations with characters from other anime titles.

Along with the Kekkai Sensen ending, the band also performed the opening songs of anime such as Soul Eater, 3-gatsu no Lion Season 2, Tiger & Bunny, Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front – Babylonia, and Welcome to the Ballroom.

The band’s latest anime song is Chaos ga Kiwamaru, which is used in the opening of Blue Lock, the soccer anime that became a big hit in the Fall 2022 season thanks in large part to the 2022 World Cup.

It’s fair to say that UNISON SQUARE GARDEN’s music has become a signature part of Blue Lock, so it’s not too surprising to see them back for the second cour.

While the big hits of Fall 2022 such as Chainsaw Man and Bocchi the Rock! ended after just one cour, Blue Lock is a 2-cour show so its run has extended to the current Winter 2023 season.

Its new ending theme is entitled Numbness like a ginger, and it will be used starting from the next episode.

Although the new ending song has been announced, the ending animation and credits will likely only be shared online after the Episode 15 broadcast.

Along with the announcement, Blue Lock’s second ending song is also confirmed to be released as a single on April 12, 2023.

New episodes of Blue Lock are released every week on Crunchyroll. The first season will be composed of 24 episodes.
