After an unlikely victory against Germany, Japan once again got a historic World Cup win, this time over Spain. To celebrate Japan’s World Cup win over Spain, Blue Lock illustrator Yusuke Nomura shared a special illustration featuring the series’ main character.
This illustration was shared online by Nomura through his personal Twitter account.
Along with this drawing, it was revealed that a big Blue Lock announcement will be made soon, possibly tying into the recent World Cup wins by Japan.

Japan Beats Spain in the 2022 World Cup
In the 2022 World Cup, Japan was put in the same group as Spain, Germany, and Costa Rica.
Before the tournament, many pundits expected Spain and Germany to be the two teams that advance to the Round of 16.
But Japan proved doubters wrong when they defeated Germany 2-1 thanks to an impressive comeback. Though things weren’t looking good when Japan was defeated by Costa Rica.
Yesterday, Japan faced off against Spain. Thanks to impressive play by the Japanese national football team, they won the match 2-1 to top their group.
The win itself is already noteworthy as Spain was the favorite to top their group. But what made the match even more historic is the second goal.
The ball nearly crossed the line before being shot by Ritsu Doan which led to a point-blank goal by Ao Tanaka.
To celebrate the historic goal and win, Yusuke Nomura, the illustrator of the soccer manga Blue Lock, shared a special illustration:
This isn’t the first time that Nomura drew something for the World Cup as he also did so when Japan beat Germany earlier in the group stage.

Blue Lock Big Announcement Coming Soon
Following the win, it was revealed by several anime insiders on Twitter that an important announcement regarding Blue Lock will be made soon.
Specifically, this big announcement will be revealed in the Weekly Shonen Magazine issue 2-3/2023 which will be released on December 14, 2022.
Currently, there’s no word yet on what exactly the announcement will be. But it’s likely going to be either related to the World Cup or the ongoing anime series.
Even before this year’s World Cup, Blue Lock was already a popular manga. Its popularity shot up when the anime series adaptation premiered earlier this season.
Now though, thanks to Japan’s big wins, there’s no doubt that Blue Lock’s popularity will increase in the coming weeks.
