Over a year after season 4’s conclusion and the initial announcement, we finally have some details on the Black Clover film! Here's the latest on the Black Clover movie's release date, studio, where to watch, trailer and everything you need to know.
What is the Black Clover Movie About, and is it Canon?
News on what the Black Clover movie will cover was heavily guarded until the first full teaser was revealed in October 2022. At that point, it was confirmed that the movie will be called Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King.
According to official releases, the upcoming Black Clover movie will be a standalone, non-canon story related to a previous Wizard King but featuring the main characters from the anime:
Many fans previously believed that the film wouldn't be canon considering how much the anime has covered so far and how this practice is common in other long-running franchises.
Some fans believed the story would take place during Black Clover's time skip. However, it appears that the Black Clover movie will be a form of prequel concerning Conrad Leto, the Wizard King before the series' current incumbent, Julius Novachrono:
In notes accompanying the latest trailer's release, the Black Clover manga's creator Yuki Tabata, supervising the film, referred to it as a "why didn't you do this in the manga" story, hinting that the film won't be too detached from the original series:
It's not yet clear how the story will come together as a prequel while also featuring Asta and Yuno with fairly advanced abilities, according to the trailer. We await an official synopsis, which is usually provided ahead of release.
