X-Men ’97 season 1 is over, though its final episode was massive. Not only does it set up events in the following seasons, but it also features a ton of cameos that delighted fans. So, here’s a list of 9 eye-popping easter eggs in the X-Men ’97 season finale.

This list features characters that appeared in cameos, along with characters who did not physically appear but were shown as easter eggs.

While you have probably seen some of these, others may have escaped your attention as they were surprisingly well-hidden.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for X-Men ‘97's season finale, so proceed with caution.

  1. Modular Iron Man

Perhaps one of the most memorable cameos in X-Men ’97 is Iron Man. To be exact, fans noticed that Tony Stark appears as Modular Iron Man.

You’ll be forgiven if you’re unfamiliar with Modular Iron Man as this version of Stark’s signature armor is more of a nod for long-time fans of the comics and other spinoffs.

Even though he wasn’t shown in action that much, Iron Man’s appearance has big implications as it means he might play a big role in the next season. Better yet, he may get his own animated series.

  2. Daredevil with Cloak and Dagger

Aside from Iron Man, more Marvel heroes were shown as the Sentinels were wreaking havoc. One that surely delighted fans is Daredevil who arrived on screen and went on the offensive with his signature Billy Club.

What made his appearance even more exciting was the fact that Cloak and Dagger also appeared in the street. This is a potential build-up to another series or more appearances from these New York-based heroes.

  3. Doctor Strange

Another New York native who appeared in a cameo is the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange.

Instead of being with Captain America and Iron Man though, Doctor Strange was shown amid a surgery at the Manhattan Memorial Hospital.

That’s not to say that he’s acting like a civilian as he’s shown to be using his magical powers for the operation.

Much like the other cameos, this was just a short appearance, but it does a lot in fleshing out the world, not to mention that it is making lots of fans excited about a potential new Avengers animated show.

  4. Black Panther and T'Chaka

With plenty of Marvel heroes getting easter egg appearances, it’s no surprise that Black Panther is also in the finale. Specifically, his appearance is reminiscent of his look in Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

What’s more, even T’Chaka appeared, albeit through a screen while talking to Captain America. There, he’s addressed as King T’Chaka – an interesting development, though one that baffled some.

That’s because some believe that T’Chaka’s appearance is a continuity error given that T’Challa was already the king in the 90’s Fantastic Four. Of course, it can just be an honorific for the former king.

  5. Peter Parker and MJ

Spider-Man did not show off his skills against the Sentinels, but Peter Parker and MJ were there in the finale.

Unlike the other cameos that we’ve listed, their appearance is definitely more of an easter egg as even some fans missed them on-screen.

For those who immediately spotted the two, they were also impressed by the broken glass effect shown on screen which looked reminiscent of a spider web.

  6. Apocalypse

While many viewers theorized that Onslaught will be the next big villain in the series, that isn’t the case it seems, at least based on episode 10’s ending.

The X-Men may have prevented the asteroid from crashing into Earth, but the team is trapped at different times. To be exact, Xavier, Magneto, Beast, Rogue, and Nightcrawler now find themselves in Ancient Egypt.

There, they come across En Sabah Nur, also known as the iconic X-Men villain, Apocalypse. This seems to be a different version of him, though the X-Men are still very much familiar given Beast’s reaction.

With En Sabah Nur appearing, it’s pretty clear that Season 2 will feature Apocalypse as the big villain, or at least one of the major ones.

  7. Rachel Summers

Instead of Ancient Egypt, Cyclops and Jean Grey are transported to 3960 AD. There, they come face to face with Mother Askani and Nathan as a child.

As many long-time fans know, Mother Askani is an alternate version of Rachel Summers, Cyclops and Jean’s daughter.

Given her appearance alongside a child version of Nathan, the future storyline is no doubt going to be a big part of the next season.

It’ll be interesting how this will intersect with the other storyline though, not to mention how the events on Earth will fit in.

  8. Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch did not appear in the series, though an image of her was shown revealing that she’s off-world. Meanwhile, many X-Men members are missing as they’ve been trapped in different times.

This doesn’t build much up on its own, but it is still an exciting easter egg as it means Scarlet Witch may appear in the future.

One possible event is that she comes back and plays a big role in season 2 on Earth, potentially alongside another child of Magneto.

  9. Polaris [REDACTED]

This easter egg was probably missed by many viewers. When the Magneto Accords were shown, Magneto’s profile listed three kids, with one being redacted.

It didn’t take long for fans to theorize that Polaris is redacted in the file. The fact that it was blacked out might be an even bigger indication that she’ll appear in the future and not just in Magneto’s mind.
