The Acolyte Episode 3, Destiny, features the backstory of the mysterious twin sisters Mae and Osha.

Though it’s set further back in the timeline than the previous two episodes, it shows major connections to the greater Star Wars canon with numerous Easter eggs and references.

Warning: Spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.

The Acolyte Episode 3 reveals Osha and Mae’s origins. The two were raised by a coven of witches led by Mother Aniseya, who also served as their mother figure.

The kids were preparing for their ascension ceremony, which would officially make them a witch, but Osha had second thoughts.

The arrival of the Jedi Knights on the planet Brendok sparked Osha’s interest in joining the Jedi.

As this resulted in Osha and Mae taking different paths, it ended with a tragic event that saw the twin sisters apart and Mother Aniseya dead.

With this major turn of events, here are the five things viewers may have missed in The Acolyte Episode 3.

Zabrak

Mother Koril’s appearance looked familiar because she belonged to the same species as Darth Maul and the prequel’s Jedi Master Eeth Koth.

The three were all Zabrak, distinct through the horns on their faces.

Koril was part of the coven that Aniseya led. It was later revealed that she carried Mae and Osha in her womb after Aniseya created them.

“Dark and Unnatural”

During the ascension ceremony, Mother Aniseya revealed they were hunted, persecuted, and forced into hiding because their powers were considered “dark and unnatural.”

This foreshadowed Darth Plagueis the Wise, General Palpatine’s Sith master.

Her words mirrored Palpatine’s when he talked to Anakin Skywalker about his master’s ability to create life in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

That said, it looked like the coven’s power was the source of Plagueis’ ability in the canon.

“They Have No Father”

Upon the Jedi Knight’s arrival on Brendok, they asked to see the children, who Aniseya denied they were training.

Jedi Master Indara asked Aniseya where the kid's father was, and the latter revealed, “They have no father.”

After Aniseya stressed that she created the kids during an argument with Mother Koril, this revelation confirmed that Osha and Mae were conceived through the Force.

It was the same way Anakin was conceived in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, showing similarities between the Chosen One and the mysterious twins.

However, compared to Aniseya using her power to create life, Anakin’s conception was more miraculous, given it was connected to his status as the Chosen One.

Mid-Chlorian Blood Test

Despite strongly opposing the Jedi’s desire to test Mae and Osha, the witches eventually agreed.

Mae and Osha went to the Jedi ship, where the latter met Torbin. While the two discussed the lightsaber, Torbin suddenly took a blood sample from Osha.

By the looks of it, Torbin was about to test Oshas’s mid-chlorian count.

This showed another connection to The Phantom Menace, where Qui-Gon Jin took the young Anakin’s blood sample after discovering him on Tattooine.

“I’ll Never See You Again?”

After their Jedi test, Osha admitted telling Sol she wanted to be a Jedi.

This led to an argument between the twin sisters, with Osha revealing that she wanted her life different from Mae's.

Aniseya asked Koril to take Mae for a walk while she talked to Osha. Osha apologised, but Aniseya stopped her.

She then advised her to choose and pull the thread if needed. Osha asked, “I’ll never see you again?”

It was the same question Anakin asked her mother, Shmi, in The Phantom Menace when he joined the Jedi.

Three episodes into The Acolyte, the show has already made major references to and parallels to the overall Star Wars canon.

More may be revealed as the show continues, promising to excite fans even further.

The Acolyte Episodes 1 to 3 are now on Disney+, while new episodes are released every Tuesday.
