Did The Suicide Squad Trailer Finally Reveal Taika Waititi Mystery Role?

We finally have the first trailer for The Suicide Squad and it offered a glimpse at the new Task Force X's crazy mission. But did the teaser also reveal who Taika Waititi will be playing in the DC Extended Universe flick?

It's no secret that Waititi is part of The Suicide Squad. After all, the filmmaker's name was listed when James Gunn initially revealed the cast of his upcoming movie. Since then, everyone's role has been confirmed except for Waititi's.

Interestingly, the new trailer for The Suicide Squad even led to the revelation that Sylvester Stallone is providing the voice of the adorable yet terrifying King Shark. So did the teaser also confirm who Waititi is playing in the movie as well?

So far, we've already met every member of Task Force X so it's unlikely that Waititi will portray one of the cons from Belle Reve who joins the team. With that in mind, there's still one major character whose actor has not yet been revealed: Starro.

The Suicide Squad trailer offered our first glimpse at Starro and although we only get to see it from afar and a brief shot of its foot, it's quite clear that the gigantic mind-controlling alien starfish will be the film's main villain. There is a possibility that Waititi will portray the Big Bad in motion capture and possibly provide its voice.

This isn't the first time that Waititi has played a character through motion capture. The Jojo Rabbit director actually portrayed and voiced Korg in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. In addition to that, Waititi played IG-11 in The Mandalorian.

For now, it has not yet been confirmed whether Waititi is playing Starro in The Suicide Squad. Nevertheless, we wouldn't be surprised if this is confirmed before the film's premiere.

The Suicide Squad is scheduled for release in selected theaters and on HBO Max on August 6.
