Benedict Wong Finally Addresses Wong's Return in Shang-Chi

One of the awesome things about the latest Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings trailer was the unexpected reveal in the last few minutes. After all, the scene confirmed that Wong will be facing off against the Abomination in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick.

But was it really the Doctor Strange character who appeared in the trailer? Benedict Wong has finally addressed his appearance in Shang-Chi and shared his excitement for the upcoming MCU movie.

There have been previous speculations that Wong had been filming a scene for Shang-Chi but there hasn't been any confirmation about this from Marvel. Amazingly, that all changed when Wong appeared in the film's latest trailer.

We already know that Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed Wong vs Abomination but the Marco Polo star has kept quiet about the news. Luckily, Wong finally opened up about the Shang-Chi appearance, admitting that he was really eager to join the project.

"When Shang-Chi was happening, I was so pleased that it was happening but I was a little kind of crestfallen I wasn't a part of it," Wong told Syfy Wire. "And then the call [from Marvel Studios] came. And I was like, 'Yes!'"

Wong also revealed that he got to meet the cast and crew before filming, confessing that he was thrilled to meet Tony Leung.

"And then to be sat at a table of Asian excellence, it was amazing. And I'm a big fan of all of those artists. Tony Leung is a massive idol of mine. So it's been constant surprises, that's what [the role of Wong] gives me," he said.

We're also delighted that we'll get to see Wong in action later this year. Although he has been a supporting character in Doctor Strange, there is little doubt that Wong can stand on his own and hopefully defeat the Abomination in Shang-Chi.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It also stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng'er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, and Ronny Chieng. The movie will premiere on September 3, 2021.

Wong will return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is scheduled for release on March 25, 2022.
