American Gods Cancelled After Season 3 Conclusion

It looks like Shadow Moon's story is coming to an abrupt end. Starz has decided to cancel American Gods after the conclusion of its third season last week.

The confirmation comes from Variety, which reveals that Starz decided not to renew American Gods for a fourth season. However, it was also revealed that there are plans to give the series a proper conclusion through "a potential event series or movie to wrap up any loose ends."

Starz released a statement regarding the cancellation.

"American Gods will not return for a fourth season. Everyone at Starz is grateful to the dedicated cast and crew, and our partners at Fremantle who brought author and executive producer Neil Gaiman's ever-relevant story to life that speaks to the cultural climate of our country," a spokesperson for the network said in the statement.

American Gods follow Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) as he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday and discovers that there is a war between the Old and New Gods that could threaten humanity. It's up to Shadow to figure out how to put an end to the war while also discovering his strange connection to one of them.

It's no secret that the series has undergone several difficulties right from the start. Showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green left the show after the first season due to a fallout with Fremantle. Jesse Alexander took over for Season 2 but was then replaced by Charles Eglee along with Gaiman.

In addition to having trouble keeping a showrunner, American Gods also had controversies when Orlando Jones left the series blaming the producers. Needless to say, it was only a matter of time before someone pulled the plug on the show.

For now, it is unclear whether Gaiman and Eglee will continue to be involved in the American Gods project that will conclude the show's storyline. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
