Veteran Star Wars Producer Rayne Roberts to Co-Develop Star Wars: The Acolyte Disney+ Series

With plenty of live-action Star Wars shows getting released, one of the most intriguing series is Star Wars: The Acolyte. The Disney+ series is set within the final days of the High Republic. The series will get some company from the Star Wars: Rebels producer Rayne Roberts.

Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland is developing the series. It is described as a mystery-thriller that will be taking viewers to a galaxy of shadowy secrets and the emerging dark-side powers within the final days of the High Republic era. The listing on Lucasfilm's website lists Star Wars: Rebels producer Rayne Roberts, joining Headland and co-developing the Acolyte series, which was announced in the last Disney Investor Day on December 2020.

Roberts serves as the Vice President of Film Development at Lucasfilm. She is also involved in the creative development of Star Wars: Rebels. She also worked on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Regarding the Acolyte project, Headland stated, "I would say it's in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don't know much about. That's what I can say. Just because my show is technically, yes, 'female-centric', meaning it centers around a female protagonist, I don't think that necessarily excludes men from that space. I relate to male characters all the time. I root for Mando. I root for Luke... An inclusive space means an inclusive space. But at the same time, I think that just because something has a female protagonist doesn't necessarily mean it's only for women.

Aside from the Star Wars: Acolyte series, Disney also revealed other projects including Obi-Wan Kenobiand Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Other projects were spinoffs of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian, which are Ahsoka and Rangers of the New Republic. The Mandalorian season 2 finale revealed another series titled The Book of Boba Fett.

Star Wars: Acolyte is currently under development.
