Will The Book of Boba Fett Replace The Mandalorian Season 3?

After watching the season finale of The Mandalorian Season 2, many fans are wondering if The Book of Boba Fett will be replacing The Mandalorian Season 3. It's a reasonable question, considering that The Book of Boba Fett will be released next year around the time The Mandalorian comes out.

The good news for The Mandalorian fans is no, The Book of Boba Fett will not be replacing the show. Instead, it will be giving The Mandalorian a little bit of breathing room and exploring the events of that time.

Jon Favreau, Executive Producer of The Mandalorian said in an interview on Good Morning America, "So this is actually separate from ‘The Mandalorian' Season 3... but what we didn't say in that announcement is that the next show coming up, Kathy said the ‘next chapter,' and that's going to be ‘The Book of Boba Fett' and then we go into production right after that on Season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian,' back with the main character that we all have known and loved. So that's going to be pretty soon following that. So we're working on that pre-production now, while we're in production on ‘Boba Fett."

The Book of Boba Fett will feature some of the characters that we see in The Mandalorian. It's already pegged Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) in a major role. She was a major character in The Mandalorian, appearing in Chapter 5: The Gunslinger, Chapter 14: The Tragedy, Chapter 15: The Believer, and Chapter 16: The Rescue.

There's quite a lot of shows that Disney has announced in the Star Wars universe over the next few years, including the highly anticipated Obi Wan series, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch. It's likely that they will want to introduce some of the characters in The Book of Boba Fett, just like this show was introduced in The Mandalorian. Possibilities include Lando Calrissian, in preparation for his show, Qi'ra, who we haven't seen since Solo, Han Solo, Chewbacca, more Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and even Sabine Wren.
