In 2020 Lucasfilm revealed massive new content coming to Disney+ over the next few years, including a new Obi Wan series, Ahsoka, Rangers of the New Republic, Rogue Squadron, and an unnamed Taika Waititi movie. One Star Wars show that has been exciting fans the most is Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be produced by Dave Filoni, who also produces The Mandalorian and previously Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It will also be produced by Athena Portillo, Brad Rau, and Jennifer Corbett. This is an impressive production team, which is responsible for almost all of the animated shows that have come out of Lucasfilm over the past decade.

Since the show is now official, and a release could be imminent, here is everything you need to know about Star Wars: The Bad Batch that has been revealed so far.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will release on Disney Plus on May 4th! Quite an apt release date choice since May 4th is also known as Star Wars Day and is celebrated by Star Wars fans worldwide! May the 4th be with you!

Star Wars: The Bad Batch trailer: When will it come out?

No trailer release date has been revealed. We do have the above sizzle reel which dropped in December. You can watch it above.

The sizzle reel reveals some interesting details. The series will be turning to Kamino, the aquatic planet that Obi-Wan visited in Episode II and learned of the Clone army being developed. Of course, no animated series following the Clone Wars would be complete without an appearance of Emporer Palpatine. We see a brief appearance from him in the form of a hologram.

Other notable inclusions are Fennec Shand, who also appeared in The Mandalorian in "Chapter 5: The Gunslinger", a new kind of Battle Droid, some kind of Sarlacc creature, Tarkin's return, and a gold lightwhip weapon that appears similar to a lightsaber.

The show will focus on the same Bad Batch characters featured in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "The Bad Batch". In the Clone Wars episode, Commander Cody explains that the "Bad Batch" squad is composed of defectively born clones who had special "desirable" mutations.

It is composed of Sergeant Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshair. So far Fennex Shand is also confirmed to appear in The Bad Batch. The version of Fennex Shand that appears in the show will be a younger version of the character we saw in The Mandalorian.

We can also confirm that Emperor Palpatine will return based on his appearance in the sizzle reel. In the featured Clone Wars episode, Dee Bradley voiced all the Bad Batch members. Voice actors for this series have not yet been announced.

According to Lucasfilm, the synopsis for the show is as follows: "The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose."

This sounds like an exciting premise for a Star Wars animated series. It also makes sense in the terms of chronologically following up Star Wars: The Clone Wars which just completed its final season in February of 2020.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch timeline: When does it take place?

The Star Wars: The Bad Batch timeline is as follows: it will begin at the very end of the Clone Wars. This is around the time Emperor Palpatine executed Order 66. It's considered one of the darkest times in the Star Wars universe where Emperor Palpatine rose to true power in the galaxy.

22 BBY - The Clone Wars Movie

22-19 BBY - The Clone Wars TV Series

19 BBY - Revenge of the Sith

19 BBY EST - The Bad Batch

13-10 BBY - Solo: A Star Wars Story

9 BBY - Obi Wan Series

5-1 BBY - Star Wars Rebels

0 BBY - A New Hope

Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode count: How many episodes will there be?

Star Wars: The Bad Batch will likely have between 12 and 20 episodes per season. The most recent seasons of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels came in at about 11-15 episodes, so we would expect the same for The Bad Batch. Upon viewership success, we expect the show would be ongoing and have additional seasons, just like the previous Star Wars animated series.
