Marvel Studios has once again done a fine job of surprising fans from out of nowhere as the trio of Tom Holland, Jacob Batalon, and Zendaya joined forces to "reveal" the official titles of the upcoming third Spider-Man sequel. In case you're wondering why I said "titles", it's because the gang unveiled three different names for the Spidey project which caused a lot of confusion amongst fans.
Taking to their respective Instagram pages, the actors shared our first look at Peter Parker, Ned Leeds, and MJ but what's more intriguing is that each post features a title card with different wacky names like Spider-Man: Phone Home, Spider-Man: Home-Wrecker, and Spider-Man: Home Slice. Check 'em out here:
Obviously, they're just trying to mess with MCU fans who have long been asking for juicy details about the project which began production late last year but if anything, Tom, Jacob, and Zendaya's collective troll job only proved that you really can't underestimate how smart the fandom is.
Naturally, webheads stormed Twitter to theorize about the "fake" title reveals, and out of all the theories that have surfaced, an interesting take from one user has gone viral and it raises a pretty interesting argument. Twitter user @_TrueVerdict believes that the said titles — particularly Home Slice and Home-Wrecker are connected to the potential cameos of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Check out the full theory here:
Hear me out. Home-Slice is referring to the pizza delivery Tobey McGuire Spider-Man. Home-Wrecker is referring to Andrew Garfield Spider-Man wrecking the lives of Gwen Stacys family. Phone-Home is referencing Tom Holland Spider-Man always calling Tony and Happy. BAM. Multiverse. pic.twitter.com/kLHyckXqlO— True Verdict (@_TrueVerdict) February 24, 2021
I'm not saying we should rely on theories but even I am convinced that Maguire and Garfield are coming back home despite the lack of information surrounding their cameos and the studios' reluctance to talk about it.
Sure, Holland has come out to dismiss rumors himself but do you honestly believe the guy? I'm sure he's just playing coy to avoid "spoiling" stuff again and quite frankly, something as huge as this should be kept secret. I believe it's only a matter of time before we get the confirmation we've been waiting for.
Homecoming 3 is scheduled for release in December.
