The entire Marvel fandom was rocked yesterday when news broke out that Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke was headed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to work on the upcoming Disney+ spin-off series Secret Invasion alongside Samuel L. Jackson and a few other stars. Longtime followers of the billion-dollar franchise have been dying to see the British actress in the MCU so naturally, this new development is something a lot of people are thrilled about.
Variety first reported that Emilia is already in final negotiations to appear in the MCU but details about her involvement in Secret Invasion and the extent of her Marvel contract weren't disclosed. I gotta say, it's a smart business move on Marvel's part to cast the already decorated actress before another franchise could snag her. It's also a monumental win not only for Marvel fans but for the entire comic book community as well and if anything, Emilia has proved over the years that she belongs in a place like the MCU.
The real question is, which character could she end up playing in the Marvel world? With Secret Invasion taking inspiration from its comic counterpart, it's safe to assume that Emilia will play the villain as a major Skrull character but the possibility of her taking on an iconic Marvel superhero role isn't exactly out of the question as well. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next.
