Yoo Seung Ho and Hyeri collaborated to give birth to a new period drama, Moonshine.

After four years, Yoo Seung Ho landed a new role in a period drama following his 2017 The Emperor: Owner of the Mask. He also starred in similar projects in the past years, including The Great Queen Seondeok and Warrior Baek Dong Soo. The new series also challenges him, as it marks the first drama he is making with the idol-turned-actress Hyeri.

In Moonshine, the actor plays the role of Inspector Nam Young, who works in a government division that monitors the alcohol ban in the area during the Joseon Dynasty. While doing his works, he meets Hyeri's character, Kang Ro Seo, who brews alcohol to support her family.

Despite their contrasting characteristics, the duo finds themselves falling in love with each other eventually. After a long wait, the Korean stars finally shared their tale by releasing the first episode on Monday.

Moonshine Soars High Upon Arrival

Director Hwang In Hyuk oversees the romance drama after spearheading other hit period series in the past years, including Sungkyunkwan Scandal. He proved his capacity as a director by scoring a 7.5 percent viewership rating nationwide soon after kicking off Moonshine's first episode on Monday.

The director, Yoo Seung Ho, Hyeri, Byun Woo Seok, and Kang Mina all appeared at a press conference on the day of the release and gave more details about the flick.

"'Moonshine' can be summarized as a story of four young people rebelling against taboos. I thought it would be fun to talk about youth who faced the big taboo of prohibition. I did my best to combine various genres so that [viewers] could follow the stories of the characters without being bored," director Hwang In Hyuk said.

Meanwhile, Yoo Seung Ho – who has been a pro in historical dramas – said that the genre has its own charm compared to modern dramas. Per the actor, working in flicks like Moonshine needs a lot of preparation. Despite that, he is reportedly addicted to doing such roles.

Hyeri, for her part, thought that Moonshine would be intense since it felt "lyrical." She then hinted that there are many chasing scenes in the drama as they tell the stories about friendship and youth.

Yoo Seung Ho Leaves Promise To Viewers

During the same discussion, the lead star made a promise to viewers that he and his co-stars would fulfill once they hit high viewership ratings.

"If the viewership ratings exceed 10 percent, the four of us (Yoo Seung Ho, Hyeri, Byun Woo Seok, and Kang Mina) will donate 4,000 briquettes to those in need," he said.

With Moonshine's initial rating of 7.5, it is highly likely they would earn more soon.

Moonshine airs on KBC every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 p.m.
